I recently acquired a complete power steering setup off of a 1965 V8 Comet (steering box, pitman arm, power steering ram & all mounting parts, idler arm, steering link/relay rod and tie rod assemblies, hoses, pump, belts, and pulleys, the whole enchilada). Of course, I plan on buying new hoses and belts. Otherwise, I have a few questions:
The ZF box I've got clamped to the frame rail of my '64 is a beautiful fit in most respects and it's a better-quality box (same internals as E39 BMW M5/740i box, different-shape case) than either, but it's MUCH longer on the firewall end, it will require significant modifications to the bottom end of the column and it'd require massive column . very very seldom do these power steering boxes go bad--if you have a noise --its the pump-- if your steering is loose -- check-check stabilizer bars [rubbers]- check ball joints-- check tie rod ends[ inner and outer]- check idler arm--do afront end alighnment --i have never had to change a power steering box --

We used to pretty much only use hex head #10 or #12 screws for boxes and whatnot. Lately we started using phillips "truss head" #8 screws for mounting boxes and clips, and they aren't too shabby. They are also 1/2 the cost per fastener, which adds up for the number of screws I go through a year.
